ISPO acknowledges that the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic is exceptional, affecting our global community, and creating uncertainty. ISPO considers personal interactions between delegates, researchers, and industry as essential; therefore, we continue planning to safely hold the World Congress in Mexico in April 2021. We are in regular contact with the regional and international stakeholders regarding health and hygiene plans to guarantee the safety of presenters, delegates, visitors, and staff, and logistics of international travel. Updated information will be provided on the congress web site and ISPO eUpdates.
The ISPO World Congresses is a premiere global event for prosthetics, orthotics, and assistive technology services that improve mobility and quality of life for people with physical disabilities. As ISPO President, it is my privilege to invite you to Guadalajara, Mexico in 2021 to join us in celebrating ISPO’s 50th anniversary, sharing ideas and innovations to improve assistive technology knowledge and services, exploring the trade exhibition, and connecting with other delegates in the various social activities.
The World Congress theme is “The Art and The Science”. This theme brings together two important aspects of prosthetic and orthotic care. The “Art” can refer to elite craftsmanship and clinical experience that is applied when providing appropriate services for assistive technology consumers. “Art” can also relate to the personalization and artistic aspects of device design that incorporates the user’s personality and feelings, moving an assistive device beyond just a piece of technology. The “Science” incorporates innovation, evidence, and knowledge translation across the spectrum of prosthetic and orthotic services to enable end-users to receive appropriate services at the right time, the right place, and the right cost.
This World Congress is jointly supported by ISPO Mexico, ISPO Canada, and US-ISPO. This regional collaboration between ISPO member societies is a fantastic example of how working together can create great outcomes.
We are in an exciting era of innovation and opportunity. I look forward to seeing you in Guadalajara to share and enjoy the many possibilities.

Dear Friends and Colleagues: ISPO Mexico, US-ISPO, ISPO Canada and all the ISPO National Member Societies in Latin America are truly honoured and excited about the ISPO 18th World Congress in Mexico.
Guadalajara is known as the most Mexican of Mexican cities and the place where authentic Mexican traditions can be experienced. The city is the state capital of Jalisco and the second most important city in Mexico. It is a place where your senses vibrate with the lovely mariachi songs, the tequila flavour, the colour of its folklore and the aroma of its gastronomy; all of those attributes have made this city a vigorous metropolis and its solid cultural identity has given the image of Mexico abroad. Guadalajara, undoubtedly, has become the ultimate meeting destination because of its warm hospitality and its first-class tourist infrastructure.
We are waiting for you in Guadalajara to celebrate with us the ISPO 18th World Congress within a framework of camaraderie among colleagues, O & P, physical rehabilitation and mainstream educations professionals. Come and share with us a professional and cultural experience that will allow you to carry in your heart the authentic taste of our Mexican culture! Welcome to Guadalajara, Mexico!
