Every two years, the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) invites professionals involved in the care of persons in need of prosthetic, orthotic, mobility, and assistive devices to its unique and interactive flagship meeting, the ISPO World Congress. The global ISPO community meets to learn about the latest scientific and clinical advances, products, innovative technologies, designs, and materials in prosthetic and orthotic care.
With a mission to reach out to a variety of markets, the Congress travels around the globe:
- Kobe, Japan (2019)
- Cape Town, South Africa (2017)
- Lyon, France (2015)
- Hyderabad, India (2013)
- Leipzig, Germany (2010)
- Vancouver, Canada (2007)
ISPO 18th World Congress, taking place from 1-4 November 2021 in Guadalajara, Mexico, will offer a high-quality scientific programme presented by renowned international speakers. At the same time, companies from all continents will present their latest products and innovations in the international exhibition.
The 2021 World Congress theme “The Art and The Science” brings together two important aspects of prosthetic and orthotic care. The “Art” can refer to elite craftsmanship and clinical experience that is applied when providing appropriate services for assistive technology consumers. “Art” can also relate to the personalisation and artistic aspects of device design that incorporates the user’s personality and feelings, moving an assistive device beyond just a piece of technology. The “Science” incorporates innovation, evidence, and knowledge translation across the spectrum of prosthetic and orthotic services to enable end-users to receive appropriate services at the right time, the right place, and the right cost.
