Bone Anchored Limbs is an innovative method of attaching artificial limbs to the human body. An improvement in mobility and quality of life that is unique in individuals with limb amputation. In this Special Interest Group for Bone Anchored Limbs (SIGBAL), all surgeons, prosthetists and rehabilitation specialists will work together to provide optimal care for people with limb amputations and bone anchored implant systems. We will develop a system with which institutions can apply for accreditation based on quality characteristics so that patients know what to expect. The goal is also to forge a partnership so that we can discuss complex issues together.
Every two years a joint meeting will be organised during the ISPO World Congress. Because this bone anchored prosthesis treatment is still in its infancy, we can offer a global data management system with joint publications. We will also create a knowledge agenda for international research to compare and further optimize different surgical strategies and techniques in amputees. Expert patients will also be welcomed at the SIGBAL to address their perspectives.
