3,200 experts from over 100 countries at the I.S.P.O. 2025 World Congress in Stockholm
What happens when science meets lived experience, tradition meets technology, and a midsummer city becomes the stage for global innovation in rehabilitation? From 16 to 19 June, Stockholm hosted one of the most dynamic gatherings the prosthetics and orthotics field has ever seen — and set the course for the future.
Over four days, the I.S.P.O. 20th World Congress brought together 3,200 professionals from more than 100 countries under the theme “Science in Practice, Practice in Science: Collaboration and innovation towards sustainable rehabilitation.” The programme featured over 150 sessions across neurotechnology, AI, sustainable care, digital transformation, and inclusive design. Early-career professionals played a strong role, with formats like the 3MT competition and hands-on fabrication tracks energizing the congress community.
Set against the light-filled backdrop of Swedish midsummer, Stockholm offered an inspiring setting for exchange and connection. From traditional Midsommar dances and a welcome by Sweden’s Minister for Health Care to a reception at the iconic Nobel Prize banquet hall, the congress was as atmospheric as it was impactful.
An international exhibition with 192 exhibitors and a thriving start-up zone showcased the latest in assistive tech innovation. Keynotes, thematic symposia and moving personal stories highlighted the importance of user-centered design and inclusive care.
During the closing ceremony, Sandra Ramdial (Canada) was announced as the new ISPO President, and Bangkok, Thailand was confirmed as the host city for the 2027 World Congress.
