9:00 AM - 10:15 AM Thu, 19 Jun

Description

From the 2023 SwedeAmp annual report, an increase in usage of intelligent (MPKs) prosthetic knee joints in Sweden is presented and the growing body of evidence that highlight benefits of using MPKs with regards to function, reduced risk of falling as well as the health economic aspects is stated. After transfemoral amputation, a comprehensive, multidisciplinary rehabilitation program is essential for a patient’s mobility, independence, and quality of life. Clinical evidence strongly suggests that the first steps after a lower limb amputation are among the most important. During the rehabilitation phase, one critical goal is building new users’ trust in their prosthesis. MPKs are especially effective for this purpose because of a very high level of safety while also helping patients increase their mobility.

How can the patient’s rehabilitation potential be unlocked to achieve the maximum mobility?

In this exhibitor’s workshop, we address the topic by highlighting challenges in rehabilitation, outlining elements necessary for a holistic treatment approach and together with end-users showcase opportunities that intelligent new prosthetic technology offers in therapy and training after transfemoral amputation to support patients on their path to recovery.

This exhibitor’s workshop will showcase how O&P professionals can utilize the new visual and acoustic live feedback features integrated in the knee joint that can support learnability and motivation for the end-users and thereof strengthening therapy and training outcomes. In addition, feedback-oriented training will help end-users to develop their body perception and better integrate the prosthesis into the body scheme.
